RECESS RECAP

VI Farm Tour
Congresswoman Plaskett searching for the queen bee.
Last month Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett hosted a farm tour in the Virgin Islands. Attendees included locals involved in the farming and fishery industries as well as visitors with expertise in organics, farm credit, and more. Over two days the Congresswoman and attendees toured farms on St. Thomas and St. Croix and engaged in discourse with the farmers, listening to their concerns and offering advice on how to strengthen the territory's agricultural sector. Individuals got a breath of what Virgin Islands agriculture has to offer as they ate a healthy farm to table meal, experienced a live demostration of farmers manually processing fish, and toured a breadfruit based distillery.

New School Year! New Books!
Congresswoman Plaskett joins the class.
Children in the Virgin Islands got to hang out with their Member of Congress this week as they returned to school. Congresswoman Plaskett visited schools throughout the territory and brought with her boxes of books from the Library of Congress. Working with the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program the Congresswoman's office selected dozens of books to be donated to Virgin Islands public schools. Following Congresswoman Plaskett's initial delivery, books will be regularly sent to the territory.

Honoring Former Postmaster Louis A. Jackson

As one of her last acts before August recess began Congresswoman Plaskett submitted a statement about former Virgin Islands Postmaster Louis A. Jackson for the Congressional Record. A ceremony was later held in St. Croix honoring Mr. Jackson where he was presented with a framed copy of the Congresswoman's statement. Postmaster Jackson dedicated 46 years of his life to the United States Postal Service and was integral in the building of new post offices, expanding delivery routes, and has served as a mentor for many. We thank Postmaster Jackson for the many ways that he has enriched our community.

Constituent Case Story
Recently, Mr. Hodge, a St. Thomas resident contacted our office about an issue he had been having receiving Social Security benefits. He had previously applied and was unsure about the status of his case. After some difficulties calculating exactly what Mr. Hodge was to be paid, we are pleased to report that he has received the benefits owed.

If you are a Virgin Islands resident having an issue with a federal agency, please contact one of our offices so we can do our best to assist.
