Congresswoman Plaskett advocates for Virgin Islands Airports at a Subcommittee on Aviation Hearing

The government shut down affected our airports in many ways. It delayed our work on the infrastructure surrounding the airport and most importantly delayed incoming grants and federal monies that were awarded to us for infrastructure and crucial trainings for airport staff.

Even more broadly, the government shut down affected our tourism - which is a major part of our economy.
Congresswoman Plaskett in her statement to the Subcommittee on Aviation emphasized that our largest revenue comes not from cruise ships, but from the visitors who travel by air and stay. Congresswoman Plaskett also pointed out that the government shut down delayed recovery efforts post two category five hurricanes.

Congresswoman Plaskett co-sponsored H.R. 1108, to provide funding from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund for all Federal Aviation Administration activities in the event of a government shutdown.
