Congresswoman Plaskett Hits the Road for Infrastructure

Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett, Co-Chair of the New Democratic Coalition's Infrastructure Taskforce traveled to Texas and South Carolina for a listening tour.

As Democrats prepare to craft a comprehensive infrastructure bill, this tour allowed Members of Congress to gain an understanding of infrastructure issues facing different parts of the country and adopt beset practices in their own districts.

Congresswoman Plaskett Announces Military Academy Appointees 
Appointees Alec Kuipers and  Angelo Capriola

Congresswoman Plaskett announced that two Virgin Islanders have received full appointments to U.S. Military Academies. The Congresswoman congratulated Alec Kuipers who was accepted to the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy in King Point, New York, and Angelo L. Capriola who has been accepted to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
 
Congresswoman Plaskett also gave special recognition to Matthew T. Wojtylak, who has been accepted to attend the U.S. Naval Academy Prep school, a stepping stone to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.

In a statement, Congresswoman Plaskett said, "Virgin Islanders have a long and honorable history of serving their country within the U.S. Armed Forces and I applaud these intelligent and hardworking young men for continuing this legacy."


Congresswoman Plaskett Announces $1.6 Million Grant for Head Start Programs
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded over $1.6 million for Head Start Programs to Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands. 

Ensuring that the community has access to quality childcare is an issue that benefits all aspects of our community, including health, education and economics.  This grant will help to fund the Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands’ Early Head Start program which provides service to over a hundred children, families, and pregnant women. 

Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett Announces Three Grants Totaling $90 Million
FEMA has awarded the Virgin Islands three grants, $5 million to retrofit the Grove Place  Fire Station, $29 million to WAPA for Emergency Protective Measures, and over $56 million to the V.I. Housing Authority.  These grants will benefit the Virgin Islands tremendously with the ongoing rebuilding efforts making the Virgin Islands whole again.
