Roundtable with USDA
Congresswoman Plaskett, Members of the BHR and officials from USDA
This week, the Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research (BHR) Subcommittee, which Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett chairs held a roundtable discussion with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The roundtable's purpose was to discuss the implementation of the landmark 2018 Farm Bill, specifically the Farm and Ranch Stress Network(FRSAN). Individuals in the agriculture industry deal with volatile financial markets, uncertain weather patterns, and natural disasters which all add to the day-to-day pressures of owning a business. FRSAN was created to connect farmers and ranchers with the resources needed during times of stress and mental health emergencies.

75 Years After the Holocaust: the Ongoing Battle with Hate
The House Committee on Oversight and Reform recognized International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau with a hearing this past week. The Committee used this opportunity to examine the importance of remembering one of the largest genocides in history and the continuing fight against hate in all its forms. We must allow the past to inform our actions in the present and our plans for the future. If we allow tragedies such as the Holocaust which killed 11 million people, the Congolese genocide by King Leopold II of Belgium which killed up to 15 million Congolese, and the Rwandan genocide which killed around a million Rwandans in 100 days slip from our collective memory, we will not recognize the signs of another such event before it occurs.
