Congresswoman Plaskett's Congress on Your Corner Initiative

During district work week, Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett visited all three islands, meeting with constituents through her new Congress on Your Corner Initiative. 

Congresswoman Plaskett spoke on various federal issues affecting Virgin Islanders including, housing, support services, and more. Members of the community were invited to join the discussion. 

It is high-priority for the Congresswoman to hear and understand the concerns of her constituents. To participate in the discussion be on the look out for future Congress on Your Corner events.

Congresswoman Plaskett Offers an Amendment to Establish a Voting Right Taskforce

Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett introduced an amendment to H.R. 1, For the People Act. H.R. 1 strengthens and expands voting rights, ethics rules, and reforms regulations to campaign finance.

Congresswoman Plaskett's amendment to create a task force to explore voting rights for U.S. territories was incorporated in H.R. 1. The bill was passed by the House of Representatives on March 8th. 

It is critically important that all Americans have their voices heard and counted in Congress. Congresswoman Plaskett continues to work diligently on ongoing efforts that will secure full representation for Virgin Islanders. 

Congresswoman Plaskett Introduces Three New Parity Bills

Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett introduced three new bills that focus on the parity of accessibility to healthcare, education and resources to the Virgin Islands. Congresswoman Plaskett has made it her legislative priority to ensure that the territory receives treatment that is fair and equal to the states.

H.R. 1352, will expand school lunch programs to the Virgin Islands under the Richard B. Russel National School Lunch Act, similar to the reimbursement that states receive. H.R. 1353, will apply the apportionment formula of the states from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to the Virgin Islands. H.R. 1354 will expand coverage of the Virgin Islands Medicaid and Medicare programs by giving territories parity.

Congresswoman Plaskett continues to advocate for equity- bringing our economy to a stable level, increasing the competitiveness of our education system, and improving the quality and accessibility of our heath care.

On February 27th, Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett questioned Michael Cohen, former attorney for President Trump on the accuracy of Trump's financial disclosure statement.

Congresswoman Plaskett, in the Oversight and Reform Committee stood strong on the principles that uphold financial ethics and transparency. All candidates, especially presidential candidates owe it to the American people to be transparent in their campaign finance.

Congresswoman Plaskett Gives a Floor Speech to Terminate President Trump Emergency Declaration

Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett gave a floor speech in support of H.J.Res 46, a resolution to terminate the president's emergency declaration. 

Declaring a "non-existent" national emergency, allows the president to strip necessary funds from key programs to advance personal interests, circumventing the congressional process.

Congresswoman Plaskett is a strong supporter of Congress' power of the purse. The money set aside should be used by the programs they were allocated to and not an unconventional barrier.


Congresswoman Plaskett Gives Testimony to the Budget Committee on Her Fiscal Priorities for 2020

Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett testified before the House Committee on Budget, to highlight her fiscal priorities for 2020. 

In her testimony, Congresswoman Plaskett highlighted funding for infrastructure, Medicaid, education, and economic programs for the Virgin Islands.


Congresswoman Plaskett Opens the Congressional Art Competition

Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett is pleased to officially announce the 2019 Congressional Art Competition. The annual competition is an opportunity for the territory to showcase its spectacular young homegrown talent. 

The winning artwork will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol Building and the winner will have the opportunity to participate in the annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
