Plaskett statement on Labor Day

In commemoration of the Labor Day holiday, Virgin Islands Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett issued the following statement:

Each year, we gather as a nation to commemorate the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the country.Similarly, here in the Virgin Islands, our history with organized labor predates the Transfer, when D. Hamilton Jackson and Ralph Bough formed the St. Croix Labor Union in 1915. Labor Day, for many, also marks the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year. I want to wish our students in the Virgin Islands who are going back to school a safe and successful school year. Amidst the many challenges we face in our community, the successes of our students studying both in the territory and abroad, shines a bright light on the prospects of a greater Virgin Islands in the years to come. Have a safe, fun-filled Labor Day and a successful school year.”
