Plaskett Issues Statement on Puerto Rico Power Plant Fire
Washington, DC,
September 22, 2016
“Our thoughts are with the people of our neighboring island territory during what has to be a difficult time. Today I reached out to my colleague Rep. Pedro Pierluissi to let him know that the people of the Virgin Islands are watching, praying and making ourselves available to assist in whatever way we can. Rep. Pierluisi’s office has let us know that FEMA is providing generators to the hospitals and the White House is engaged and wiling to assist to get power on line to the people of Puerto Rico. While we are all facing crisis periods in our islands, it is imperative that we not become isolationist and too consumed in our own issues to help one another out when we can. As neighbors, fellow Caribbean people and in many instances, family, I want the people of Puerto Rico know that the Virgin Islands is here to assist in any way possible.” |
