Plaskett to attend 58th Presidential Inauguration
Washington,
January 19, 2017
Virgin Islands Congresswoman, today, released the following statement announcing her plans to attend the 58th Presidential Inauguration:
"I have decided to join President Obama, Secretary Clinton and the large majority of Democrats who will be attending the 58th Presidential Inauguration. Notwithstanding the concerns that have been raised, I believe strongly in the peaceful transition of power that makes our democracy a model for other nations around the world." "I also believe strongly in the freedom to engage in principled defiance and respect deeply the decisions of my colleagues who will not be in attendance. In no way do I condone the rhetoric and divisiveness which defined a significant part of the President-elect’s campaign, and as a member of Congress, I will remain vigilant and steadfast in the effort to progress the Virgin Islands and other underserved communities across America. As we continue to fight for full recognition and participation in Congress, I believe it important, as your representative, to be a part of this democratic institution." |
