Plaskett Statement on President's FY 18 Budget Proposal
Washington,
May 23, 2017
WASHINGTON, DC—Virgin Islands Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett issued the following statement regarding the release of the president’s budget today:
"Budgets are about priorities, and this President’s priorities are clear. This budget hollows out our economy and endangers working families in the Virgin Islands and across this nation. The $2.5 trillion in cuts to entitlement programs, which include $192 billion to The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and $800 billion to Medicaid, will devastate localities like the U.S. Virgin Islands where one-in-five children are covered under Medicaid and where one-fifth of our population receive SNAP benefits." |
