CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY PLASKETT PROUDLY SUPPORTS NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT MUSEUM COIN BILL DURING NATIONAL POLICE WEEK

Museum Commemorative Coin would honor the National Law Enforcement Museum and its role in telling the story of American law enforcement

Washington, DC— As the nation honors the country’s men and women law enforcement officers during this National Police Week, Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett proudly demonstrated support for the nation’s law enforcement officers by signing the National Law Enforcement Museum Commemorative Coin Act, H.R. 1865. The Congresswoman released the following statement:

“Authorized by Congress in 2000, with ground broken in 2010, The National Law Enforcement Museum officially opened to the public on October 13, 2018. The Museum is a project of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and is dedicated to telling the story of American law enforcement through a highly interactive, immersive and hands-on experience. The Museum hosts STEM-focused educational programs and workshops and is also committed to providing thought-provoking programs and events that help strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

“The Memorial Fund also maintains the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, a lasting tribute to those who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice. It also hosts the annual Candlelight Vigil, now in its 31st year, to honor fallen officers.

“The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) should be commended for their hard work that they do.  They are committed to the safety and well-being of our residents and every visitor who visits our shores. I know that each member of the VIPD organization is equally dedicated to serving our needs, and earning an exceptional level of trust by holding themselves to the highest standards of professionalism. The Virgin Islands Police Department is a prepared organization dedicated to providing a safe environment and premier police services.

“The National Law Enforcement Museum Commemorative Coin Act, H.R. 1865 would authorize minting of this coin to honor the Museum and its important mission in providing everyday citizens a window into the critical role law enforcement officer’s play in society and their roles in the safety of our communities.

“Support for H.R. 1865 for this important bill during National Police Week, which draws an estimated 30,000 people from around the country, would be a strong statement of congressional support for American law enforcement, its vital role in society, and the importance of honoring this proud profession during National Police Week and in the National Law Enforcement Museum.”
