Plaskett released the following statement announcing $419,000 in funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that will provide resources to the Virgin Islands to support the Islands response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19): “As a Member of Congress, we recognize that Americans urgently need a coordinated, fully funded, whole-of-government response to keep us safe from the widening coronavirus epidemic. Today I met with the CDC Director, the head of NIH, along with other officials combatting the virus. I was informed of specific funding immediately available for the Virgin Islands to combat COVID-19. “Local health departments, like the one in the Virgin Islands, are on the frontlines to responding to the COVID-19 outbreak, and my office is deeply grateful for their work so far. Today the CDC is disbursing $419,000 in new funding as called for by Congress. Awarding this funding will accelerate planning and operational readiness for COVID-19 preparedness and response. “These funds will allow public health leaders to implement critical steps necessary to contain and mitigate the spread of the virus in communities in the Virgin Islands.” # # # |
