From the moment she stepped into the Virgin Islands Legislature in 1986, she committed herself to being a tremendous advocate for Virgin Islanders and individuals from all walks of life. She served 11 terms as a St. Croix Senator in the V.I. Legislature and even now continues to hold the record of the top vote-getter in a senatorial election, territory wide. “Senator Hansen also committed her time and talent within the American Legion, assisting and providing support to our territory’s veterans for many years. She was a lively radio personality, engaging with our community on a weekly basis and providing a platform for discussion of our local issues. More than all of these, Senator Hansen was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. There was no doubt that she was just as passionate about her family as she was about her engagement and influence in our community, if not more so. “Senator Hansen’s passing has left a tremendous void in our culture and our community. Her voice, her influence, and her passion for the people of the Virgin Islands, particularly of St. Croix, will be sorely missed. “I send my love and prayers to her husband, children, grandchildren and all those grieved by her passing.” ### |
