PRESS RELEASE

PLASKETT MOURNS PASSING OF HOUSE COLLEAGUE - CONGRESSMAN BILL PASCRELL

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett joins her colleagues in mourning the passing of Congressman Bill Pascrell (NJ-08).

“I am deeply saddened by the news of Congressman Pascrell’s passing. Bill was an incredible fighter, not just for the people of New Jersey but for all Americans. He dedicated his life to public service—as a veteran, former public-school teacher, two-term mayor of Paterson, NJ, state assemblyman, eventually going on to serve in Congress for almost 30 years.

“I first worked with Bill to save Alexander Hamilton’s image on US currency when there was discussion to change it. Pascrell was fierce and unrelenting - with Bill, we won. My time with him on Ways and Means has been no less intense. Bill fought tirelessly for the people of his district, Americans who want the best for themselves, their families, and their country. The same as most Americans: therefore, it was easy to align with him on so much.

“Congressman Pascrell will be missed by House Democrats, myself and my staff.  My team member, Bob Evans, worked previously for Bill’s office and continued to be fond of him and considered himself also part of the Pascrell team - that is a tribute to Bill’s mentorship. I offer my deepest condolences to his wife, Elsie, his children and grandchildren and all those who loved him.”
