After learning of the passing of businessman and revered community activist, Edwin ‘Eddie’ Ortiz, Virgin Islands Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett issued the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that I offer my condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Edwin “Eddie” Ortiz. A pillar in the St. Croix community, Mr. Ortiz was a staunch community advocate, having been recognized numerous times in recent years for his work toward the improvement of the Estate Profit community. Many will remember Mr. Ortiz as the bedrock of the his neighborhood, often times using his business as a space to host town hall meetings for residents to share any number of concerns with local officials. My memories of Mr. Ortiz date back to the early days of my political campaign. I'm thankful to Mr. Ortiz for taking a chance on me as a fledgling politician, extending himself, his family, his supporters and of course great food. I'm grateful for his guidance to us younger Virgin Islanders and his support and desire for the best of St Croix. His decades-long service and commitment to our community will most-definitely be missed.”
