ST. CROIX- Virgin Islands Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett released the following statement in response to a town hall meeting in St. John hosted by Virgin Islands Senator Brian Smith:

“I thank Senator Smith and his staff for holding tonight’s town hall meeting in St. John. I introduced H.R. 4731 to expedite the rebuilding of Caneel Bay and to restore the jobs lost by residents of St. John and St. Thomas as a result of the damages to the resort caused by hurricanes Irma and Maria. After learning about stalled negotiations for several years between the National Park Service and CBI, our purpose in filing the bill was to jumpstart the process. I am grateful our community is being engaged in this process, and I’m supportive of them receiving all the information necessary to facilitate a vibrant and healthy economy on St. John. My sole concern is that the residents of St. John see movement on this issue in a manner favorable to them and for our territory’s economy.”
