CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY E. PLASKETT ANNOUNCES $1.6 MILLION GRANT FROM U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded over $1.6 million for Head Start Programs to Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands. The Congresswoman made the following remarks:

“Studies have shown that the first five years of a child’s life are crucial for brain development and that the first three years even more so. The $1.6 million dollars awarded in this grant will help to fund the Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands’ Early Head Start program which provides service to over a hundred children, families, and pregnant women.

“Ensuring that the community has access to quality childcare is an issue that benefits all aspects of our community, including health, education and economics. I am confident that Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands will use these funds to continue providing exemplary services to the children and families of the U.S. Virgin Islands.”
