McQuerry September 27, 2019 202-215-8524 PRESS STATEMENT CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY PLASKETT ANNOUNCES THREE IMPORTANT TRANSPORTATION GRANTS FOR BOTH AIRPORTS IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS TOTALING NEARLY $3 MILLION “These grants are significant to the residents of the of St. Thomas and St. Croix and the U.S. Virgin Islands because they will allow the USVI Port Authority to continue promoting the wise use of these facilities for the betterment of the U.S. Virgin Islands and its people,” stated Congresswoman Plaskett Washington, DC - Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett, a Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, released the following statement announcing three important grants for Henry E. Rohlsen and Cyril E. King Airports in the Virgin Islands: “I am pleased to announce that the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix and the Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas will receive important grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation. “The Department of Transportation announced that the Virgin Islands Port Authority would receive a $660,000.00. This grant will provide federal funding for the Cyril E King Airport associated with Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands. This project reconstructs 14,500 square yards of the existing apron pavement that has reached the end of its useful life. This project funds the design phase. This project conducts a Pavement Management Program to plan for maintenance and rehabilitation of the airfield pavements. “The Department of Transportation announced that the Virgin Islands Port Authority would receive a $1,503,000.00. This grant will provide federal funding for the Cyril E King Airport associated with Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands. This project improves the Runway 10/28 safety area to enhance the safety of airport operations. “The Department of Transportation also announced that the Virgin Islands Port Authority would receive $639,000.00. This grant will provide federal funding for the Henry E Rohlsen Airport associated with Christiansted, Virgin Islands. This project rehabilitates 10,000 feet of the existing Runway 10/28 lighting system that has reached the end of its useful life and requires rehabilitation to enhance safe airfield operations during low visibility conditions. “These important grants are significant to the residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands because they will allow the USVI Port Authority to continue promoting the wise use of these airports for the betterment of the U.S. Virgin Islands and its people, and to assist the government and the community in fostering and sustaining sound economic development when it comes to its airports.” ### |
