CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY PLASKETT RELEASES STATEMENT ON VI TEACHERS OF THE YEAR

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement regarding the two individuals recently nominated for Teacher of the Year on St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John:

“I am tremendously pleased to extend heartfelt congratulations to the two individuals who have been selected as teachers of the year—for the St. Croix district, Mrs. Zahra O’Reilly-Bates and for the St. Thomas-St. John district, Ms. Michaelrose Ravalier.

“Like many, I am who I am today, in part, because of dedicated teachers like Mrs. O’Reilly-Bates and Ms. Ravalier. It is genuinely a privilege to participate in recognizing them and all of the teachers who understand the importance of their occupation, and those who do not take that responsibility lightly.

“Education is paramount to the growth and continued development of our territory. It helps to acquire new skills and knowledge that will significantly impact our future. Teachers are the ones who possess the great potential to help our children develop many positive traits and learn new skills to become contributing and remarkable citizens. They actively contribute to the academic and social advancement of our youth. We must recognize and celebrate them for their tireless efforts in education.

“The work of both Mrs. O’Reilly-Bates and Ms. Ravalier is evidence of their remarkable passion and commitment to education in the Virgin Islands. I commend each of them for fostering progressive learning environments in our community.”
