CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY E. PLASKETT'S STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF FORMER DELEGATE RON DE LUGO
St. Croix, USVI – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett issued the following statement on the passing of former Delegate to Congress Ron de Lugo of the Virgin Islands:
“Today, with the passing of the former Delegate to Congress Ron de Lugo, the Virgin Islands community, our Congressional family and the entire country has lost a beloved public servant. Delegate de Lugo dedicated every chapter of his life to serving his community and country; whether in the Army, on the radio at WSTA and WIVI radio, or as an elected official. His public service was extensive: Virgin Islands Territorial Senator, Democratic National Committeeman, St. Croix Administrator, a Delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1956, 1960, 1964 and 1968 and of course, for 10 terms as Delegate in the US House of Representatives.
“All who knew Delegate de Lugo respected him for his patriotism and his passion for public service, and loved him for his humor and kindness. I had the opportunity to intern for him right after college and recall his booming voice, his negotiating skills and of course his whistle. I am honored to continue his legacy of championing postal and transportation & infrastructure issues in the US Virgin Islands through my seat on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
“The world has lost the warmth and humanity of this special man. Those of us who had the pleasure of knowing him will miss him, however the Virgin Islands is better for his work and devotion. May it be a comfort to Mr. de Lugo’s family that many of us are praying for them at this sad time.”
