PLASKETT ANNOUNCES GRANT FOR SEXUAL RISK AVOIDANCE PROGRAM Washington, DC – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement regarding a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to fund a Sexual Risk Avoidance Program in the US Virgin Islands: “I am happy to announce that HHS’s Administration for Children and Families has awarded the Virgin Islands Developmental Disabilities Council, Inc. a $36,864 grant to fund a Sexual Risk Avoidance Program. “This program will educate 80 teens throughout the territory on how to voluntarily refrain from non-marital sexual activity, prevent pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and other risky behaviors. We know that proper sexual education leads to good decision making and reduces the chances of teen pregnancy and STD contraction. “Programs such as these benefit our entire community and I am proud of the Virgin Islands Developmental Disabilities Council for taking on the task of educating our vulnerable youth population with such pertinent lifelong knowledge. ### |
