For Immediate Release Contact: Michael J. McQuerry PRESS STATEMENT CONGRESSWOMAN PLASKETT OFFERS HER CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF ROBERT “BOB” O’CONNOR, JR WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement expressing her condolences to the Virgin Islands community regarding the loss of a great giant and civic activist, Robert “Bob” O’Connor, Jr: “It is with profound sadness that I share my condolences to the family, loved ones, and friends of Robert “Bob” O’Connor, Jr. Bob has served our beloved territory with distinction, merit, and a lifelong commitment as a legislator, Board Member of the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA), businessman and community advocate. Because of his positive disposition and notable service, in February of 2019, the 33rd Legislature of the Virgin Islands enacted Act No. 8202, naming the new VIPA maintenance building in his honor, which stands proudly adjacent to the Cyril E. King Airport. I am proud to say that he was a trusted advisor to me and humbly gave advice to young people who came to him. I will miss being able to sit with him at the Lutheran Church on St. John or across from him at a Democratic breakfast meeting. Bob was involved in several community initiatives, charitable endeavors, and entrepreneurial activities, wherein he possessed keen insights and knowledge to navigate around any hurdle. He displayed leadership in making suitable decisions for the greater good and he was a real visionary. Our community has indeed lost a consummate and versatile leader. His decades-long service and commitment is unparalleled and will most certainly be missed.” ### |
