CONGRESSWOMAN PLASKETT OFFERS HER CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF SAMUEL “OLD TIMER” GARNETT

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement expressing her condolences to the friends and family of Samuel “Old Timer” Garnett:

“It is with tremendous sadness that I share my condolences to the family, loved ones, and friends of Samuel “Old Timer” Garnett.  Old Timer, as he was affectionately known by so many, was a very dear and close friend to me and my family for many years. An avid and dedicated gardener, beloved husband and father of 5, and devoted grandfather, he was a gift to so many of us. He migrated to the US Virgin Islands from St. Kitts to work in the 1950’s to secure a better future for him and his family. He worked in the cane fields and in construction before working at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility, where he served for over 20 years in multiple roles, including Chief Correctional Officer.

“Old Timer was a faithful and staunch campaign supporter of mine from the very beginning and remained tremendously supportive until the time of his passing. I will miss his timely phone calls, his fatherly advice and of course the beautiful fruits and vegetables he so freely and generously gave from his garden. 

I send my love and prayers for comfort and peace to his wife, children and other family and friends during this time.”
