CONGRESSWOMAN PLASKETT ISSUES STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT BIDEN'S HISTORIC NOMINATION OF JUDGE KETANJI BROWN JACKSON TO THE U.S. SUPREME COURT

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett, a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement regarding President Biden’s historic nomination of Judge Ketanji Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“I applaud President Biden and his nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court. Judge Jackson is the first African American nominated to the Supreme Court in more than 30 years, and if confirmed, will be the third Black Supreme Court Justice, the fifth woman, and most importantly, she will be the first Black woman to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is a stellar choice and will serve well as a fair, impartial jurist with a clear commitment to equal justice. A former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Breyer, whom she is nominated to replace, Judge Jackson has broad experience across the legal profession—she has served as a federal appellate judge, a federal district court judge, a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, an attorney in private practice and as a federal public defender.

“President Biden sought a candidate with exceptional credentials and unimpeachable character. Judge Jackson is an outstanding nominee for Supreme Court, and it is my hope and belief that the Senate will move forward with a fair and timely confirmation and hearing.”
