CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY PLASKETT’S STATEMENT REGARDING THE CONVENING OF THE 116TH CONGRESS
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett released the following statement on the Convening of the 116th Congress:
“The 116th Congress has commenced and I am excited about the opportunities for the Virgin Islands. Upon taking the majority Democrats restored the right for Delegates to vote on the House Floor.
“Democrats introduced H.R. 1, For The People Act, a historic reform package to restore the promise of our nation’s democracy, end the culture of corruption in Washington, and reduce the role of money in politics to return power back to the American people. The bill contains finding on voting rights in the territories and there will be opportunities to discuss self-determination in hearings on this legislation. As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I am looking forward to passing an infrastructure bill that will fundamentally change this country’s transportation and buildings as well as support the Virgin Islands ports, public buildings and roads.
“This week, the Democrats will vote on individual appropriation bills to end the Trump Shutdown. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in Congress to not only make the Virgin Islands better and stronger BUT make America a better place to live also.” ###
