The Agriculture Committee, as well as the Subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture and Research, which I chair, are presently conducting targeted engagement with the agriculture industry and stakeholders to receive feedback on their experiences with provisions in the $428 billion Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, known as the 2018 Farm Bill, as well as their needs for the forthcoming Farm Bill. “The primary focus of this trip to Denmark was to actively observe and learn from the practices employed by the Danish Agriculture sector. 60% of the land in Denmark is used for farming and their farm industry produces 3 times the amount of food needed in their country. Additionally, Denmark has continued to be on the cutting edge, leading innovation regarding wind and solar energy, carbon emissions and other important sectors. We toured several different farms and discussed the high degree of collaboration throughout the Danish Agriculture and Food sectors which is achieved by cooperative farming and results in increased knowledge and innovation. “I look forward to expanding upon the conversations and observations I made during my time in Denmark with the Virgin Islands farming community and discussing methods to increase partnerships and collaboration for the agriculture sector in our territory.” ### |
