For Immediate Release Contact: Tionee Scotland September 19, 2022 340-201-6453 PRESS RELEASE PLASKETT STANDS WITH ALL CARIBBEAN ISLANDS AFFECTED BY HURRICANE FIONA Washington, DC – Congresswoman Plaskett released the following statement as Hurricane Fiona made landfall in the Dominican Republic after slamming Puerto Rico with heavy rain, life-threatening flooding, and an island wide power outage. “As hurricane Fiona continues to move slowly northwest, it is still dropping flooding rain on Puerto Rico, where 1.4 million people are without power. We are grateful that U.S. Virgin Islands were spared despite the floodings and power outages as we are still in the rebuilding phases. My office has reached out the congressional office of Puerto Rico and the Embassy of the Dominican Republic. I deeply feel the pain of our Caribbean neighbors that are going through another catastrophic event as we commemorate the anniversary of hurricanes Irma and Maria five years later. “Due to the medical service preparedness FEMA has in place, the residents benefited from more supplies and aid than in the past. At this time, we will continue to stand with our Caribbean brothers and sisters until they are on the path to recovery. We are strong and resilient people, and we will get through this together.” ### |
