Virgin Islands Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has allocated $500 million in federal funding for transportation projects under a seventh round of its Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) grant program.
“I am pleased to announce the availability of this federal funding and encourage the relevant parties in the Virgin Islands to apply. TIGER grants are highly competitive but offer substantial funding opportunities that could help address the Territory’s current and future infrastructure and economic development needs. A successful grant application could not only facilitate our infrastructure improvement efforts, it would also provide much needed jobs,” Plaskett said.
2015 TIGER discretionary grants are awarded on a competitive basis to fund capital investments in surface transportation infrastructure projects that will have a significant impact on the nation, a region, or metropolitan area. The grant program will focus on capital projects that generate economic development and improve access to reliable, safe and affordable transportation, while emphasizing improved connection to employment, education, services and other opportunities, workforce development, or community revitalization.
Prospective grantees are encouraged to visit the U.S. Department of Transportation’s website at: http://www.dot.gov/TIGER for more information on this round of TIGER funding.
