PLASKETT THANKS HOUSE SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI FOR HER YEARS OF SERVICE AND COMMITMENT TO THE PEOPLE Washington, DC – Congresswoman Plaskett, a Member of the House Ways and Means, Budget and Agriculture Committees, released the following statement after Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her withdrawal from House Leadership. “Speaker Nancy Pelosi is an iconic and exemplary leader who paved the way thus far as one of the most consequential and historic women leaders in American political history. After two decades in leadership, I thank Speaker Pelosi for her service and commitment to the Democratic party and the American people. “During the darkest times in our nation’s history, Speaker Nancy Pelosi believed in my abilities to help bring justice to the American people. I am beyond thankful that she chose me as one of the nine Impeachment Managers that argued the House’s case during the Senate trial against former President Trump for his role in the January 6th insurrection. Furthermore, I am grateful for her support which has allowed me to serve on the Ways and Means committee as only the 4th African American woman and the first from a U.S. territory. “As a lifelong public servant, Speaker Pelosi has committed herself to be a voice for the territories and marginalized communities. Following Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Speaker Pelosi personally led a delegation to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. As a result of her support, we have been able to bring much needed relief to the territories. She has always exemplified the best Christian values and the best of our country. “My colleagues and I are grateful that she will continue to serve as a member of the House, and we look forward to her continued guidance and support in the 118th congress. ###
