PLASKETT ANNOUNCES DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY FUNDING FOR INDUSTRIAL DECARBONIZATION PROJECTS Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement announcing a federal funding opportunity for projects that will decarbonize the highest-emitting industries. “I am very pleased that the Biden-Harris Administration works to deliver on generational investments and through working alongside elected officials and community leaders to showcase how historic laws are positively impacting the American experience for people of all backgrounds. The multi-billion dollar funding opportunity is a direct result of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Virgin Islands is eligible to receive equal funding as the mainland. This funding opportunities will create space for projects that will decarbonize the highest-emitting industries that can have the greatest impact on our planet, make the United States a leader in clean manufacturing, and help meet our climate goals. “The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations announced approximately $6 billion in funding to accelerate decarbonization projects in energy-intensive industries and provide American manufacturers a competitive advantage in the emerging global clean energy economy. This program seeks to demonstrate the technical and commercial viability of industrial decarbonization approaches to promote widespread technology implementation and help the U.S. lead in low- and net-zero carbon manufacturing. Eligible applicants include for-profit organizations and owners or operators of a domestic, non-federal non-power industrial or manufacturing facility engaged in energy intensive industrial processes, as stated in the Inflation Reduction Act. Funding could be used for industrial energy efficiency technologies; equipment to electrify industrial processes; equipment to utilize low- or zero-carbon fuels and energy sources; low- or zero-carbon process heat systems; or carbon capture, transport, utilization and storage systems. Assistance may be provided as grants, rebates, direct loans, or cooperative agreements. “As the Representative to Congress for the Virgin Islands, I am pleased that the appropriated funds will help bolster our industrial infrastructure and provide investments and the resources needed to protect our economic prosperity.
