PLASKETT TRAVELS TO MIDDLE EAST ON DELEGATION OF CONGRESSIONAL INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE MEMBERS

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement after traveling to Jordan, Israel, Egypt on a Congressional Delegation with other members of the prestigious House Intelligence Committee:

“Last week, I traveled with House Intelligence Committee colleagues to the Middle East to conduct oversight on intelligence operations and international cooperation in the region.  Primary focal points of this trip were the counter-terrorism missions and an increased role for the U.S. as we assess the influence of China in the region. 

“Throughout this trip, Members of the House Intelligence Committee met with Senior Egyptian, Israeli and Jordanian political leaders to reaffirm the U.S. commitment to regional stability.

“Our delegation, comprised of House Democratic and Republican leaders, had the opportunity to discuss the implications of malign activities of actors such as Iran, Russia and others in the region, as well as the Intelligence Committee’s commitment to operate in a bipartisan manner. I look forward to continue our work on closer engagement on all fronts.

“I am privileged to have had the opportunity to be a part of the Intelligence Committee’s delegation as the first Member from a U.S. territory to serve on this selective and very important committee. I look forward to continuing the work of improving our nation’s national security and strengthening the ties between the U.S. and our allies.”
