PLASKETT CHOSEN AS HONORARY CO-CHAIR OF CONGRESSIONAL BLACK CAUCUS'S 52ND ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement on her appointment as honorary co-chair of the Congressional Black Caucus’s (CBC) 52nd Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.:

“I am excited to join my esteemed colleague, Senator and Reverend Raphael Warnock as a co-chair of the CBC’s 52nd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) this year.  Each year, 2 members of the Black Caucus are tapped as the Co-Chairs and I am honored to be named by the Foundation as this year’s Co-Chair.  The Congressional Black Caucus’s tireless work to elevate and advocate the themes of democracy, freedom, and culture, especially among Black Americans and people of color is embodied in this annual conference and I am humbled by the opportunity to play such an integral part.

“The conference hosts over 10,000 participants and raises over $9M through the Gala Dinner and other sponsorships for scholarships, fellowships, and policy work.  I am also happy to welcome Governor Bryan and numerous members of his administration to host the VI Government’s first Meet and Match event at the conference—an avenue for contractors (both local and stateside) to learn about contracting opportunities in the Virgin Islands firsthand from government agencies, including the Office of Disaster Recovery (ODR), the Office of Management & Budget (OMB), and the USVI Economic Development Authority (EDA) among others.

“Additionally, I am proud to share that during ALC, the Congressional Caucus on Black Innovation (CCBI), of which I am co-founder and co-chair with my colleague Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10), will host the 2nd Annual Black Innovation Summit which will include a 2-part panel on the importance of empowering black innovators and creators.

“To all my fellow Virgin Islanders joining us for the conference, especially those of you will travel to be present, I look forward to seeing you! Thanks for being a part of the conference, learning from the other participants, and of course, amplifying the issues of the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean.”

The CBC’s 52nd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) is themed "Securing Our Democracy. Protecting Our Freedoms. Uplifting Our Culture," and will take place from Wednesday, September 20th, 2023 through Sunday, September 24th, 2023 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.
