Good Hope Country Day freshman Julian Bishop took first place in the Virgin Islands District 2015 Congressional Art Competition April 17 at the Whim Museum in Frederiksted, St. Croix.
Bishop, along with 22 students from schools throughout the territory competed in this year’s art competition. Bishop’s winning-art, a portrait of St. Croix native Oceana James, will represent the territory in the national competition and will be showcased in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. for one year.
“It’s amazing to see the quality of the art these students make, it is a testament not only to their talent, but their dedication and the dedication of their parents and teachers.” Plaskett said.
Kori Doran of Good Hope Country Day won second place and Isabelle Stamper, also a student of Good Hope Country Day won third place.
The Virgin Islands District Competition is held every year in conjunction with the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and is open to all high school students in the territory.
