PLASKETT MOURNS DEATH OF HOUSE COLLEAGUE REP. DONALD PAYNE, JR.

Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Plaskett joins her colleagues in mourning the passing of Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr.

“Congressman Payne, Jr. truly exemplified people-first politics for the people of New Jersey. A fine American, Payne, Jr. not only was a champion of change, but a family man, with an exquisitely kind heart, and sense of humor.

“He carried on a legacy of public service with the Payne name, following in his father’s footsteps.  He repeatedly advocated for better federal emergency response during the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria for Virgin Islanders and the people of Puerto Rico.

“Donald will be dearly missed by my family, staff, and the entire House Democratic Caucus.  His warmth and impeccable fashion will remain in many fond memories of him. We lost a giant in the House. It is up to us to keep his legacy going. I offer my deepest condolences to his staff, children, and the entire Payne family.”
