New Democrat Coalition Releases Infrastructure Task Force Goals for the 116th Congress Washington, DC – Today, the New Democrat Coalition Infrastructure Task Force Co-Chairs Stacey Plaskett, Jason Crow, Elissa Slotkin, and Salud Carbajal released their goals for the 116th Congress. The Infrastructure Task Force will meet with stakeholders and develop policy positions for the Coalition to advance in both the near term and long term. Infrastructure Task Force Mission Statement for the 116th Congress: The New Democrat Coalition Infrastructure Task Force will work to create jobs, spur economic growth, and modernize America’s transportation, port, air, water, energy, and communications infrastructure. We must make sustainable and innovative public and private investments across the U.S. to repair and upgrade existing assets and build vital new projects. We will seek to support projects that help communities become more energy efficient, resilient and better prepared to deal with the impacts of climate change and environmental cleanup. Finally, we will seek to give communities ownership of local development, and encourage innovation, regulatory streamlining, and more comprehensive and multi-project long term planning. “I’m proud to co-chair the New Democrat Coalition’s Infrastructure Task Force, and am pleased to be working in the Task Force on new ways to fund, fix, and accelerate infrastructure projects to provide a stronger foundation for economic growth and new jobs,” said Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett (VI-AL). “I look forward to new thinking as to innovative solutions that will improve outcomes, including those that address the threats of climate change and extreme weather events that are increasingly disruptive to our infrastructure systems.” “The sixth district is growing more every day but with that comes a growing strain on our infrastructure needs. As co-chair, I look forward to advocating for increased federal funding of our highways and public transit systems so our community can keep pace with our country’s economic growth,” said Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06). “I look forward to leading the Infrastructure Task Force and working with my colleagues to find commonsense policy solutions.” “Rebuilding our roads, bridges and water infrastructure is something that folks are demanding of us as their representatives,” said Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin (MI-08). “I’m proud to help lead the New Democrat Coalition’s Infrastructure Task Force, and with legislation currently progressing, I’m committed to getting a robust infrastructure package passed to fix our roads and ensure clean, safe drinking water.” “Coming from local government, I’ve seen the toll aging infrastructure is taking on our communities,” said Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24). “Congress can no longer afford to ignore our failing infrastructure that Americans rely on each day. Fortunately, infrastructure lends itself to strong bipartisan support, and I look forward to working with the Task Force to put forward commonsense proposals that make robust investments in our nation's crumbling infrastructure and ensure the long-term solvency of our Highway Trust Fund."
