For Immediate Release Contact: Tionee Scotland Press Statement PLASKETT EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF WAYNE “BULLY” PETERSEN Washington, DC – Congresswoman Plaskett released the following statement expressing condolences on the passing of culture bearer and Virgin Islands Quelbe band leader, Wayne “Bully” Petersen: “I was saddened to hear of Mr. Petersen’s passing. Born and bred in Frederiksted, Mr. Petersen dedicated much of his life to the preservation and carrying forward of Virgin Islands culture. He had a deep love for Quelbe music and one could always see the joy he found in it during any of his performances with his band, “Bully and the Kafoonaz.” He is an inseparable part of Virgin Islands history and more specifically the fabric of Frederiksted. Mr. Petersen spent much time in the Harrigan and Marley projects mentoring our youth through the Junior Kafooners group. “I will always remember his firm but jovial nature during his time as an active member of Our Town Frederiksted. He took his membership and responsibility seriously and was an excellent advocate for Frederiksted and its people. He was a good man; always willing to serve and support his friends and family. My family and I not only enjoyed his music and his stories, but his kindness and inclusion of all who loved our islands, which was so evident. My children were raised at Whim Museum listening to his music and his stories sharing our culture and continuing traditions. “I send my prayers for comfort and peace to his loved ones, family, and friends.” ### |
