 CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY PLASKETT ANNOUNCES $300,000 GRANT FOR THE VIRGIN ISLANDS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett (USVI), released the following statement regarding a $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Virgin Islands Department of Health:

“Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services granted the U.S. Virgin Islands $300,000 for the Virgin Islands Department of Health for the prevention and control of chronic diseases in the Territory. Chronic diseases are defined as conditions that last 1 year or more and require ongoing medical attention or limit activities of daily living or both. Chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States.

“This important grant will benefit the Virgin Islands tremendously because by making healthy choices, one can reduce the likelihood of getting a chronic disease and improve their quality of life.
