CONGRESSWOMAN STACEY PLASKETT ANNOUNCES $850,000 GRANT FOR THE VIRGIN ISLANDS DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

FAMILY PLANNING PROGRAM

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett (USVI), released the following statement regarding a $850,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the Virgin Islands Department of Health:

“Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded the U.S. Virgin Islands a $850,000 grant for the Virgin Islands Department of Health’s Family Planning Program, whose services include access to birth control, STD testing, vaccines and treatment, cancer screenings, pregnancy testing and consulting, and basic infertility services.

“This significant grant will benefit the Virgin Islands by increasing the capabilities of the Virgin Islands Department of Health’s Family Planning Program providing men, women, and adolescents access to sexual health and reproduction services. Family planning helps reduce infant mortality, adolescent pregnancy, pregnancy-related health risks, prevent HIV/AIDS, empowers people and enhances education.”
