Virgin Islands Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett today released the following statement on the passing of former Ohio Congressman and founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus Louis Stokes:

“It is with solemn reflection that we mourn the loss of Congressman Louis Stokes and remember his many contributions to our nation, the state of Ohio and to the African American community. Congressman Stokes was a trailblazer and statesman in every sense. He was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus and spent his 30-year career in Congress advocating issues important to Ohioans and to African Americans across the country. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends and with the state of Ohio.”
