PLASKETT ANNOUNCES TWO IMPORTANT GRANTS FROM FEMA FOR THE VIRGIN ISLAND POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE BUREAU OF CORRECTIONS Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement regarding two important grants totaling $24 million for the Virgin Islands Police Department and the Bureau of Corrections: “Today, I am pleased to announce a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant is for $14,217.506.32 in federal funding to the Bureau of Corrections of the Virgin Islands. The funds are for the replacement of the Alva A. Swan Correctional Annex Building damaged during Hurricane Maria. “I am also pleased to announce another grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant is for $9,558,744.41 in federal funding to the Virgin Islands Police Department for Emergency Protective Measures. Emergency Protective Measures are temporary measures taken against an incident. Emergency Protective Measures are actions taken before, during, and after an incident to save lives, protect public health and safety, and prevent damage to improved public and private property. “These important grants will benefit the Virgin Islands tremendously in our ongoing rebuilding efforts and making the Virgin Islands whole again. The United States government and the international community has an obligation to work with the affected local governments to restore infrastructure, provide critical humanitarian assistance, and help rebuild our islands.” ### |
