PRESS STATEMENT

CONGRESSWOMAN PLASKETT TO HOST MULTIPLE COMMUNITY EVENTS IN MARCH

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Plaskett, a Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, released the following statement regarding numerous community events being hosted by her office this month:

“In the month of March, I and my team will host several events to support our young people, business community as well as cultural activities for everyone.  I hope to have our community members come out to participate in one or more.  The events are:

  • On Thursday, March 17th at 6pm my office will hold our annual Service Academy Day for Virgin Islands high school students. It will take place virtually and requires that you register. There will be presenters from each of the prestigious service academies, including West Point, the Naval, Airforce and Merchant Marine Academies and the U.S. Coast Guard who will be available to answer questions and share critical information about the application process.  We encourage high school students from freshman to junior year, along with parents, teachers, and counselors to attend.
  • For businesses, I will host a Virgin Islands Business Expo with two sessions—one on March 18th at 6:00p on St. Thomas at the Antilles School Prior-Jollek Hall and another session on March 19th at 2:00p on St. Croix at the UVI Research & Technology Park. There will be government agency representatives (both local and federal) present to share information on government contracts, bonding, and other helpful topics.
  • Then, in honor of VI History Month, I will host 2 gatherings, one on St. Thomas and one on St. Croix with special guests who will share stories and information about historical places of significance in the Virgin Islands. On Sunday, March 20th at 3:00p, the event will be at Fort Christian on St. Thomas and on St. Croix, the event will be held on Monday, March 28th at 5:30p at the Whim Museum and Great House.  These will be interactive events so encourage everyone young and young at heart to come out to participate.

“I look forward to community-wide participation in all the events we have planned for the month of March. If you would like more information, please reach out to my offices on St. Croix at 340-778-5900 or St. Thomas at 340-774-4408.”
