Yesterday, Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett and colleagues Rep. Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) and Rep. Yvette Clarke (NY-09) joined the Black Innovation Alliance, Microsoft and several distinguished panelists for the “Future of AI: Ensuring Equity for Black Innovators,” event— a discussion on the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and equality for Black Innovators. “In an era of emerging technology, federal policymakers and AI experts must continue to increase discussions circulated around equity and opportunity for Black Innovators,” said Congresswoman Stacey Plaskett. “As a founder of The Congressional Caucus on Black Innovation, my colleagues and I are committed to driving initiatives that ensure equitable access to technology, funding, and education in AI and other emerging technologies. Our goal is to create policies that foster transparency, accountability, and fairness in AI applications.” "As a Congress, it is crucial for us to address the challenges that Black innovators continue to face in the emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry," said Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland. "We must ensure that Black Americans have access to jobs, capital, and opportunities in the technology fields." "As we enter the Age of AI and look upon the profound possibilities offered by these new technologies, it is imperative we do not lose sight of the grave potential for missteps and abuses on our path forward, said Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke. I’m sincerely grateful to my dear colleagues, Congresswomen Plaskett and Strickland, for coalescing our nation’s leading experts and paving the way for this necessary conversation. We are on the cusp of a technological revolution, and we must ensure Black Americans’ place is secured in this exciting new future." The event touched on key topics such as the role of AI in Black-owned businesses and ethical AI development and deployment.
