PRESS RELEASE

PLASKETT URGES VIRGIN ISLANDERS TO PREPARE FOR IMPENDING WEATHER

US Virgin Islands – Congresswoman Stacey E. Plaskett released the following statement:

“The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm warning for the U.S. Virgin Islands in addition to much of the eastern Caribbean. The advisory means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours. I urge each of us to heed all warnings and take every precaution necessary to prepare for the impending storm. Subscribe to the VITEMA alerts by visiting https://vitema.vi.gov and make sure to secure the sand and sandbags being distributed at multiple fire stations throughout the territory on Tuesday, August 13th, if needed for your homes and businesses. For more information and assistance, please reach out to VITEMA at 340-772-2244.

“It is imperative that we practice safety, particularly during hurricane season in order to prevent unnecessary accidents or unfortunate incidents. Thank you to all of our first responders and the linemen and women of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority, who often times risk their lives to ensure that we are safe and that our power is able to be restored in a timely fashion.”

In case of emergency, please dial 911.
