For Immediate Release Contact: Tionee Scotland PRESS RELEASE CONGRESSWOMAN PLASKETT OFFERS GREETINGS FOR THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY AND SHARES NOTABLE BIPARTISAN EFFORTS Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Plaskett shared the following statement in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday: “Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and every year I look forward to spending time with my family and friends as we give thanks for all our many blessings. This year, I am keenly grateful for the ways in which my colleagues and I have been able to work, sometimes in significant bipartisan ways to introduce and advance various legislation and other efforts within the last quarter to provide support and relief to our various constituencies. Some of those ways include: 1. The Expediting Disaster Recovery Act (H.R.6084), which I reintroduced with my colleague, Congressman Garret Graves (R-LA) to create a new funding stream for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide assistance necessary for meeting unmet needs in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. 1. The Farm to School Act, which I introduced with Congressman Marc Molinaro (R-NY) to get more fresh, locally grown foods in schools. The bill would also expand the farm to school program for school-aged children by increasing funding for the program from $5 million to $10 million. “Additionally, in June of this year, the House Natural Resources Committee’s Subcommittee on Federal Lands, chaired by Congressman Tom Tiffany (R-MN), hosted a legislative hearing which included testimony in support of H.R. 3025—legislation I introduced that would provide for no net increase in the total acreage of Federal land in the Virgin Islands National Park on St. John. “I am tremendously thankful that despite the chaos that has taken place in Congress over the past year, I have still been able to work effectively with my colleagues—both Democrats and Republicans—for the people of the Virgin Islands. “It is my hope that you and your loved ones enjoy this Thanksgiving holiday with good health and strength. May you harvest a brighter tomorrow and may you reap peace always.” ### |
